The Emile Awards, named after animation pioneers Émile Reynaud and Émile Cohl, are presented to a total of 10 short and feature-length animated films. Four films have been nominated in five categories for feature-length animated films: best screenplay, best sound design, best background and character design, best animation, and best feature film.

The award statue — Heino Pars' Nail — will be given out in honor of the centenary of Estonian animation director Heino Pars' birth. The Lotte Reiniger Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to the art of animation will be presented at the closing ceremony of the Black Nights Film Festival.
