Learning to survive: Ukrainian children in Estonia.

When Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February 2022, it triggered Europe’s largest movement of refugees since World War II. According to the UN Refugee Agency, roughly one third of Ukraine’s population is displaced. This film follows three Ukrainian girls, Iryna, Sasha and Masha and their families over the course of a year as they attempt to build their new lives in Estonia. The longer the girls remain in Estonia they are forced to make plans for their futures and consider the bearing these might have on their identities, all the while processing the trauma of war and the loss of home and their old lives.
