A one-night stand or rape? Victim or coward? Three people on an island confront a shared past.

Julia, a music producer, travels from Berlin to spend a late-summer weekend with her new friend Anna on a remote Finnish island. They met at a yoga retreat in Estonia and quickly bonded. Anna lives there with her Swedish husband JP, surrounded by wild scenery and a beautifully restored sauna that reminds her of childhood summers with her late grandmother.

Anna and JP have been together for seven years, and Julia is intrigued by what has kept their relationship intact. Questions of intimacy and justice have long fascinated her: she once studied law and carries a small “Lex Julia” tattoo, referring to ancient Roman legislation on sexual violence.

But Julia cannot relax once she recognises JP as the man who raped her fifteen years earlier. Julia and JP keep their shared past from Anna, but the tension between them soon becomes impossible to ignore. When a storm hits, Julia is trapped on the island.

Laura Hyppönen’s tense psychological drama explores sex, judgement, jealousy, anger, alienation and responsibility.
