As we wander through the twisting paths of our lives, what do we carry with us? And what are the breadcrumbs we drop along the way, the pieces of ourselves we leave behind so those who come after may know us?

Our letters, our artwork, our smiles, our voices. Our struggles and the heavy burdens we carry.

These struggles shape and define us just as our brighter aspects do, and sometimes our pain is what sticks in the minds of those around us, that reminds the world that something needs to change.

But a life is a life, not merely a catalyst – the films in this program remind us of this. Whether we struggle to find our voice amidst questions of identity or familial duties, whether we experience the horrors of illness, corruption, or war, we are still human, and should be seen fully and completely as such.

My uncle died in 1997 from AIDS. His death led directly to my birth. In that way, I sort of owe everything to him. This is the story of the uncle who I have never met but whose ripples of legacy live on in every breath I take.
Part thank-you note and part memorial, this short animated documentary film is centered around my search to get to know Doug as he was; a look into a life and a reflection on the emotional impact of the AIDS crisis and on the enduring ripples of legacies we all leave behind.

An animated short documentary about Alicja and Bożena Wahl – twin sisters, painters, and visual artists who played a significant role in the development of Polish art in the second half of the 20th century. The film is based on Alicja Wahl’s diaries – comprising more than 450 notebooks kept over nearly 50 years – as well as the artistic work of both sisters.

This is a story of sisterhood, of creating together, and of a relationship that became the very center of both their private lives and artistic practice. Alicja’s diaries – an intimate, unending dialogue with Bożena – open a window into their world. Combining a documentary perspective with animation, the film gives voice to two artists whose legacy and story deserve to be remembered.

Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are working on the world's deadliest migration route across the Mediterranean to rescue people whose lives are in danger.
In recent years, the rescue of human lives has become increasingly difficult. Legal restrictions introduced by the maritime authorities to reduce migration flows increase the risks and dangers for people who risk fleeing across the sea.
This short animation, created in collaboration with SOS Méditerranée Switzerland, introduces the public to a topic that is unknown to many. It encourages viewers to reflect on the fact that NGOs that are committed to saving human lives are always at risk of being penalised for their work.
